Karen Eide Bøen is a dancer and choreographer based in Bergen (NO). She works as a freelance artist collaborating with artists from the fields of dance, art, music, theatre and technology. She is interested in the relationship between sound and movement, perception, language and power.
Currently she is working on the dance project “Sjøveien (Mind’s Eye)” which will premiere in 2022, as well as collaborating on several projects in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Iceland.
2019 saw the premiere of her latest piece “Love & Emotions” at BIT Teatergarasjen in Bergen. Also in 2019, “Frank & Elena”, a new performance with artist Hugo Hedberg, premiered at Weld in Stockholm, and has been shown at Rosendal Teater in Trondheim and at Scenehuset in Oslo. Their first collaboration was “To See Yourself From The Outside” with performances in Oslo, Copenhagen, Stockholm and Bergen.
She holds a MA in Choreography from Oslo Academy of the Arts (2017) and a BA in Dance Theatre from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, London (2010), and performed with dance company thud! moving endangered spaces between 2006 and 2011. Her first stage performance “Stål i bein og armer” played at Cornerteateret in Bergen in January 2014. In 2016 she choreographed and performed the piece “The Table Turns” which premiered in the Oktoberdans festival. This was a collaboration with programmer and dramaturg Roar Sletteland and scenographer Apichaya Wanthiang.
